A number of Innovative ideas that emanate from educational and research institutions and other sources have good commercial implications and far reaching benefits for society. However, this can be realized only when these innovations are taken to the market place and the fruits of the technology development get translated into real economic and social benefits for the society. Sadly many, many potential winning innovations go unnoticed…


Conscious and intensive efforts to develop new mechanisms for mining innovations and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit among the student community and among young professionals, is the need of the hour. So in response, TREC-STEP, a pioneering Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park, in the country, with the support of the Department of Science and Technology, DST, Government of India, has carefully planned and launched several special events for popularizing this vital Innovation and entrepreneurship development mission. After the success of the Ideathon and Venture Challenge among the students of NIT, Trichy, TREC-STEP is taking this business model contest to the wider student community, by partnering with the Young Indians, an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, CII, to organize The BIG Idea Challenge, as a flagship event for kindling the Innovative spirit among Students and young profesionals. This event shall be by far the most popular Innovative idea challenge, covering nearly 20 Science and Engineering Institutions, B-schools etc. and offering an unmatched opportunity for budding Innovators to receive mentoring, seed support and other latest incubation services, to realize their innovative business ideas as valuable products and services in the global marketplace.


The shortlisted Finalists shall pitch their best business ideas to Investors, Incubation community and leading Entrepreneurs. Winners shall be felicitated in the Awards Ceremony during the YUTRY 2018: Entrepreneurship Conference and will receive attractive Prizes and certificates and commendations in various National Forums, for their outstanding achievements.

TREC-STEP, the Centre of excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship development, promoted in 1986, by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu, erstwhile REC, Trichy (now NITT) along with financial institutions and others, for promoting technology development and entrepreneurship initiatives in the country. As a technology business incubator, TREC-STEP has strategically focussed on promoting innovative technology start-ups into successful high growth business ventures. TREC-STEP has worked with a number of National and International organizations such as, the DST, DSIR, MSME, UNDP, UNIDO, the European Commission, the World Bank, etc, in ground-breaking development projects in the technology and entrepreneurship domain, focussing on cross-border venture promotion, knowledge sharing with international Incubator networks etc. TREC-STEP has also won many awards and accolades from the Government of India, the World Bank, the European Union and others.


Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organization playing a proactive role in India's development process. Yi was formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realize the dream of a Developed Nation. "To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally" being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi's work is divided primarily into three groups; "Youth Leadership", "Nation Building” and “Thought Leadership”. Entrepreneurship was chosen as the theme, as it serves as a capstone of all the three Yi ideals.
